IRS Releases 5-Year Strategic Plan

Date: August 5, 2022

The pandemic increased struggles the IRS faces in processing returns and keeping up
with taxpayer needs each tax year. The IRS is currently fighting to work through
processing a large backlog of paper returns, with a goal of completion by the end of
2022.
Amid these concerns, the IRS has released a 5-year plan focused on improving
taxpayer service.
They agency has set goals of expanding digital services, improving taxpayer outreach
efforts and updating technology within the agency through various efforts by 2026.
Some efforts have already begun implementation, like expanding “voice bot” utilization
to assist with higher call volumes and online assistance.
