IRS adopting new technology under the “Paperless Processing Initiative” that will speed up refunds and cut processing time
Experience Faster Tax Returns with Digitized Paper-Filed Returns
By 2025, the IRS is set to revolutionize its tax return process by digitizing all paper-filed returns. This exciting development brings great news for taxpayers, as it is expected to significantly reduce processing times and expedite refunds by four weeks. Previously, the IRS faced challenges in digitally processing the 76 million paper tax returns they received, resulting in lengthy processing times due to manual data entry.
Introducing Electronic Submissions for 20 Key Forms
To make the tax process even more accessible and efficient, the IRS will allow electronic submission for an additional twenty of the most used non-tax forms, including requests for Taxpayer Advocate Service assistance. This important update aims to simplify the submission of necessary forms and significantly reduce the time it takes for forms to be processed.
Additional Benefits of the New Process
· Minimized errors from manual data entry on paper returns and non-tax forms.
· Elimination of the risk of forms getting lost in the mail.
Can I still paper file?
Absolutely! If you prefer to mail in your forms or do not have reliable access to the Internet, you can still submit returns or non-tax forms to the IRS via mail.
