Sometimes legal victories come from teamwork and knowing how to navigate local systems. Last week, Legal Aid Chicago asked ILS for help reuniting a child with their mother after the father unlawfully held him in Indiana and refused to return him to mother. Our friends in Chicago helped mother get legal paperwork saying that the child should be returned to her, but they needed help getting that order executed and enforced in Indiana. Thanks to the quick work and expertise of local courts and practices, our Fort Wayne Office (Chris Baumgartner, Managing Attorney) advocated with local Indiana law enforcement to execute and enforce the order to accompany mother to retrieve her child.
Here is the heartwarming update from our friends at Legal Aid of Chicago – “As of about an hour ago, our client is on the way home with her son. He turns 3 on June 12th, and when we took this case, she was so hoping to get him back before his birthday, so accomplishing that for her was pretty amazing. I can’t thank you enough for the referral and the help on this case. Chris was amazing and we could not have done this without him. …Thank you again for all of your help – this was a really great outcome.”
