4,000 New IRS Hires to Help Answer Phones

As part of a larger IRS improvement effort tied to the Inflation Reduction Act, the IRS hired 4,000 new customer service representatives. These representatives will help answer phones, resulting in the greatest number of IRS phone assisters than any time in recent history, according to Commissioner Chuck Rettig.

The IRS intends to hire an additional 1,000 customer service representatives by the end of 2022.
